Anti-Slip Floor Coatings
More Traction Without Turning the Floor Into a Maintenance Problem
When a floor is exposed to water, dust, oils, outdoor debris, or frequent foot traffic, surface texture becomes an important part of the flooring decision. Anti-slip coating systems are designed to increase traction by incorporating texture or aggregate into the resin finish rather than leaving the surface completely smooth.
The right approach is not simply to make the floor as rough as possible. An overly aggressive surface can become uncomfortable underfoot and harder to clean, while a finish that is too smooth may not provide the level of traction the space needs. The goal is to find a practical balance for the environment.
At Wichita Epoxy Flooring, we look at where the floor is located, what may end up on the surface, how it will be cleaned, and who will use it. From there, we can recommend a texture level and coating system that makes sense for the space.
Traction Should Be Planned Around Real-World Conditions
An entry exposed to rain does not have the same needs as a garage, a wash area, a commercial back room, or a workplace where oils or process materials may reach the floor. That is why anti-slip performance should be considered as part of the entire flooring system rather than added as an afterthought.
Different aggregates and application methods can create different levels of texture. The final topcoat, the size of the aggregate, and how much is incorporated into the surface all affect how the floor feels and how easy it is to maintain.
No coating can make a floor completely slip-proof under every condition, and good housekeeping still matters. A well-specified textured finish is intended to improve traction while supporting sensible cleaning, drainage, and maintenance practices.

Useful in Residential, Commercial, and Working Spaces
Anti-slip texture can be incorporated into several resin flooring systems, which means the right solution depends on more than the words “anti-slip.” A garage may benefit from a textured flake topcoat, while a commercial or wet-use environment may call for a different aggregate and a more purpose-built flooring system.
We consider the base coating, the expected contaminants, the traffic, and the cleaning method together so the texture complements the floor instead of becoming a separate problem.
- Garages, workshops, and vehicle-related spaces
- Entry areas and spaces exposed to tracked-in moisture
- Commercial service, utility, and back-of-house areas
- Wet-use or high-traffic interiors needing additional traction
Surface Preparation and Texture Control Both Matter
Adding aggregate to a weak or poorly prepared coating does not create a good anti-slip floor. The concrete still needs to be evaluated and mechanically prepared so the resin system can bond properly. Existing coatings, contamination, cracks, and damaged areas are addressed as part of the installation plan.
During coating application, the traction material is incorporated in a controlled way so the finished profile matches the intended use. The surface should feel purposeful and consistent rather than patchy or unexpectedly aggressive.
We also discuss maintenance before the project is finalized, because a more textured floor may require different cleaning tools or routines than a smooth decorative surface.
